Bringing Out the Best

Bringing Out the Best

Positive reinforcement is the most powerful leadership tool.

It’s somewhat surprising that the phrase Bringing Out the Best isn’t listed in some authoritative dictionary as one of the most commonly understood and/or used phrases when referring to employees and the workplace.

Dr. Aubrey C. DanielsDr. Aubrey Daniels first wrote his bestselling management classic, Bringing Out the Best in People, in 1992, at the request of McGraw-Hill, who had learned of his highly successful textbook on the subject, Performance Management (first published in 1982 and now in its 4th edition). Aubrey knew that managing employee performance was and is the single most difficult thing to do when you don't understand behavior. Further, his education and expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis taught him that when you understand behavior and can identify what reinforces people, you can obtain exceptional performance.

Organizations, to this day, continue to struggle with how to get people to give their best efforts in their jobs and to the organization. Understanding behavior at an individual level is the key to success. The subject that managers must be most expert in is how to create a work environment that brings out the best in people every day.

Bringing Out the Best® is more than a phrase we use; it is one of the cornerstones of ADI as we work with our clients to transform their employees' work into something that they are ready, willing and even eager to do.
