In Episode 17, ADI's Judy Agnew explains the latest pearl, "We change other people's behavior by changing our own."
Transcript: In workshops Aubrey used to ask people, "How many of you would have fewer problems if someone else did what they were supposed to do?" As you might guess everyone raised their hands. Most of us, especially leaders, spend a fair amount of time thinking about what other people should do differently, about how other people need to change. The irony is that we change other people's behavior by changing our own. Another one of Aubrey's pearls of wisdom. The fact is we're influencing the behavior of the people around us every day whether we're aware of it or not. The behaviors we attend to or ignore are all being influenced, especially if you're a leader. So when you find yourself wishing that someone else would change their behavior, ask yourself what behaviors can you do differently in terms of antecedents and consequences, that will influence their behavior positively.
